We spent part of Mother’s Day weekend in Cincinnati, and the International Butterfly Show at the Krohn Conservatory in Mt. Adams was one of the places we visited. I can’t believe I’d never been to Mt. Adams before. It’s pretty awesome. (In the sense that Bloomington makes you forget you’re in Indiana, Mt. Adams makes you forget you’re in Cincinnati!)
The butterfly show was pretty rad. It’s just a great big room filled with flowers, people, and butterflies. They hand you a card upon entry that looks like a real flower so you have a better chance of getting one to land on or near you.
Hey! Look at that! I got one!
The flowers were SO pretty, and the butterflies were surprisingly friendly. We had to walk through airlock-type doorways going in and out in case any of them tried to hitch a ride out of town. I got to say goodbye to this little guy on our way out:
We took a quick loop through the rest of the conservatory before we headed out and got a decent family picture next to the waterfall:
They had some flowers for sale near the gift shop, but some of them were unmarked. I would have totally taken one of these home, but I have no idea what it is or how to take care of it. Anybody got a clue?
Advice for future visitors: wear your walking shoes. Parking is spotty at best, so you’re likely to walk a ways, and they weren’t messing around when they named the area “Mount” Adams. But luck was on our side that day, and we got to park close!!
