Movie reviews – Bridesmaids, Easy A, GI Joe

Chris Browning and I snuck away to a movie while we were on vacation. (No, we didn’t leave Jane in the room by herself; we vacationed with the whole fan-damily, so she hung out with Gma and Pawpaw.) I had been dying to see Bridesmaids, and luckily it was still playing at the local theater. I thought it was super funny. Kristen Wiig is adorable and wore adorable clothes. I also love Maya Rudolph, but there wasn’t enough of her in it. The rest of the ‘maids were also well casted and could hold their own among the d*ck and fart jokes (this movie was about as raunchy as a guy flick; I was so proud!). The guy that about stole the show, however, was Chris O’Dowd, who played Kristen Wiig’s love interest. Talk about adorable. I want them to make a movie just about him.

The movie got a little outlandish in parts (toast at the engagement party, bridal shower scene, Maya Rudolph’s wedding gown), and Jon Hamm played a total d-bag, but other than that, it was a lot of fun. It will definitely be going into regular rotation at our house.

Easy A was a Netflix queue movie. Not only because that’s how we rented it but because that’s how I would recommend it to you (see ratings chart). I liked it, but I didn’t love it. And the only reason I did like it was because of Emma Stone (adorable; loved her in Superbad, not so much in House Bunny). If anyone else had played her, it would have sucked. The whole premise was a bit far fetched and her friends and classmates were annoying (seriously, Amanda Bynes should retire for good this time). But I really liked Patricia Clarkson and Stanley Tucci as her parents. Again, I want them to make a movie about them! And I’ve never watched Gossip Girl, but Penn Badgley was delish (there wasn’t near enough of him in this movie!). I think I’ll go put GG in my Netflix queue right now…

The only reason I’m even mentioning this movie to you is to warn you to stay away from it. I only watched bits and pieces of it over the top of my laptop, but it was enough to realize how bad it was. Chris Browning even called it a “cinematic turd”. So that’s pretty bad. The CG effects were laughable, and the dialog was completely cheesy and cliche. Don’t bother touching this thing with a 10 foot pole.

I completely agree about Easy A. I liked any interaction with her parents, and of course with Dan from Gossip Girl. (I’m sure you noticed Travis from Cougatow sneaking in there as well.)

Please tell me when you start watching Gossip Girl because I would watch Season 1 again with you (at the same time you are, though maybe a Gossip Girl marathon would be in order).

Yeah, we definitely need to plan a marathon. CB and I are watching Californication right now…
