Do over

I’ve had weddings on the brain lately. ‘Tis the season for weddings, I suppose, although I’ve not had any to go to this spring. Between designing invitations for a couple of friends with weddings this fall to seeing a bunch of wedding stuff on Pinterest to reading about weddings in blog land (Erika’s wedding 8 years ago was amazing), I’ve been thinking of all the things about our wedding I would have done differently (except for choice of groom, of course). And while the day was special and served it’s purpose by making me Mrs. Browning, I would definitely change most of the major things (location, photographer, DJ) if I had it to do all over again.

So here’s how things went down 5 1/2 years ago (Reminder – I was not even remotely pleased with my photographers [if you can believe it, there were 3 of them]. I could have done a better job with my point and click…):

I found the idea for the programs in a magazine, but due to budget constraints, I had to make them myself.

I bought most of my decorations right after Christmas when everything was on clearance. I assembled my bridesmaids and family together for more than one Craft Day.

We made all of the flowers as well. After getting a few quotes for fresh flowers (and the proceeding heart attack), I quickly decided on silk for a fraction of the cost.

I didn’t really care what the cake looked like, but I knew I wanted a fountain (that I remembered LOVING at weddings I went to as a little girl) and a bride and groom on top. I found a Hello Kitty cake topper that I really wanted, but Chris Browning put his foot down. Firmly. But I ended up loving the one I found because it was fiber optic and changed colors and felt a little bit disco.

We did manage to get a few good pics.

And here is what my wedding would look like if I got married tomorrow, if money were no option:

This was a wedding concept photo shoot by Andrea Hubbell (found via Prairie Mod). The only thing I’d change is the bride’s bouquet, and that’s only because I found the one below on Pinterest that is very similar but better.

I think I did okay with the resources I had at the time, but it’s hard to look back sometimes and not wince.  Does anyone else wish they could have a do-over?

  1. How cute are you?? I love all the red in your wedding! And wow, this sample wedding is just like “pretty mod” all over the place. The orange/yellow/peach mixed with the simple white and walnut is lovely!

      Thanks, ma’am!

I’m in love with the colors of the bouquet. I think yellow is becoming my new orange.

I would also do somethings differently for my wedding. But I guess my most important choice of the evening was the Groom. I still like him. Actually I think I like him a little more every year. That is the truth.
