Jane Marie Browning, 19 months old, has already started to acquire a collection of dress-up stuff. In the hopes of keeping it somewhat organized in one place, I decided she needed some kind of box or trunk to keep all of her pretties in. I hadn’t really given it that much thought until I saw (and subsequently bought) this on AZ Vintage‘s page on Facebook:
It apparently is a sewing stool, which I plan on repurposing as a dress-up “trunk” for Jane. The whole thing is in really good shape. (And you can tell it’s old because it’s heavy and made well. You can’t find stuff like this today for $35!) There are no tears in the upholstery or anything, but it smells old and I want it to be cuter. I’m going to attempt to reupholster it myself, but I’m having some difficulty deciding on the fabric.
I’m planning on using quilting-weight fabric, because it’s cheap and cute. Reminder: Jane is 19 months old and is very likely to spill stuff on it, so I’m not going to have it covered in unicorn fur or anything. I want to use brown and white fabric so that it will match the living room (where it will currently stay) and Jane’s room as well (where it will eventually be moved once she outgrows the diaper genie, turtle bouncy thing, tiny chairs, etc.). I found two fabrics that I like but can’t decide which I like better.
Here is option 1 (if I choose this, I would paint the legs of the stool white):
And here is option 2 (I would possibly paint the legs a darker brown if need be):
My fear about option 1 is that since it’s a grid pattern, I will have a harder time trying to get all of the circles to match up. And I’m a little unsure of option 2 because looking at it makes me a little dizzy and I might get sick of it.
Got an opinion? Let me know!
